When you go to an interview for a new job it’s recommended that you bring your documents with you.
You already have some of those with you, but bring everything that you think can help you with your job. You never know what can happen or if you’ll be offered the job after your interview so you may need to have more than just a copy of your resume and cover letter.
This list is plain and simple, and it is a basic overview of what should be part of your job application or what might be added to document you already prepared:
- ID card, that’s your basic picture identification document
- Passport, another picture identification document
- “Employment Authorization / Work permit” if you are not a citizen of country where you apply for a job
- Driver’s licence is a picture identification document. You need it for filling out the HR paperwork.
- Birth certificate or social security card, also for filling out the HR paperwork after the interview
Job requirements may include specific skills and amounts of work experience, education credentials or areas of knowledge. The job posting may state that some other experiences or work skills are preferred but not required.
As we mentioned education qualifications, best-presenting documents would be High School, College Bachelor, Master or Doctoral diploma.
- Transcript as an official transcript – is a list of the classes taken by a student, along with grades or as an unofficial transcript – if requested. You can send a photocopy of a grade report or a downloaded copy, as long as it contains all info about you
- Certifications, (computer, teaching or any other) make sure that your certification is connected to the job
Be sure to prepare your Portfolio, if you think that you need one for this job. It provides “evidence” to an employer about your skills and abilities. This is a good way to show the quality of your experience and training.
A Resume is a written compilation of your work experience, education, and accomplishments. Make three to five copies of it; they might ask you to leave one or two or more for HR personnel.
A cover letter, this is a document that you need to be sent with your resume to provide additional info on your experience and skills. Don’t just repeat what’s on your resume, include specific info on why you are “the one” that deserves the chance. It’s a sales pitch that will market you.
Bring all the Recommendation letters that are connected with the job that you are applying for, you don’t need many copies, but take them with you and leave the originals at home Reference list, it’s important to include full contact information for each of your references. Full name, title, and company with the street address, phone, email.
You need to bring any other documentation that is specified in the job posting. Job postings also may state that some other skills, experience, or credentials are preferred, but not required. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help you.
